Mr. Peebles: World Smallest Cat, Guinness Record Cat.

March 10th, 2009

Mr. Peebles is a cat, the smallest one in the world. Actually, he is in the Guinness Book, as a verified Record.
He is now two years old and 15 centimeters long (fits in one 200 milliliter glass) although he is full grown now. Mr Peebles wasn’t loved by his ex-owner (too small for a cat) so Dr. Donna Sassman adopted him, who lives in central Illinois.

Mr. Peebles won’t get bigger because of his genetic defect, so he . He has to eat four times per day to mantain his weight.

Look at Mr. Peebles photos, isn’t he a cute small cat?

Pet Friendly Travel Tips

January 29th, 2009

pet friendly travel tipsI was going to write a post about some tips for the first pet friendly travel experience. So, before I begin to write, I read some information on the topic, and serched in some related blogs. There is plenty of writen material on the subject, but when I reached PetsCarrier in Wordpress.com, the post was so well crafted, thta I decided to Include the information here directly, and then make the author know I did it, and finally, credit him/she.

Ok, here’s what I borowed from the original post at http://petscarrier.wordpress.com (Idon’t know why the blog’s format is so narrow, but the content is king).

“If you plan on traveling with your pet, consider these travel tips to make your trip as safe and enjoyable as possible.

1. Schedule your pet a check up with its veterinarian and ask for a certificate of health, along with proof of current vaccinations such as the rabies, distemper, and bordetella. It would also be a good idea to have your pet micro chipped, in case it should get lost. You would want to have your pet returned to you as quickly as possible, especially if you are traveling out of state.

2. If your pet is on medication, bring plenty of it so you’re not running out of medication when it’s needed. It would also be a good idea to have your veterinarian contact information in case you loose the medication, so the vet can call in a prescription should the other get lost.

3. Is your pet well socialized? A well socialized pet will travel more easily and tolerate the stress of traveling better than a pet that is not used to be in a car or around other people. You want the trip to be enjoyable for both you and your pet.

4. Is your pet well behaved? Although there are now many places that allow pets, no one wants to listen to a dog barking all night or during the day. You also want to keep your pet occupied so it’s not chewing on the hotel furniture or going potty on the carpet. You don’t want your hotel room to smell like a kennel and neither does the hotel staff or your next door neighbors.

5. Find out ahead of time that the hotel you make reservations at will accept pets. You don’t want to assume that there is a pet friendly hotel in a town you intend to stay in and when you get there, you’re turned away for having a pet or the one’s that allow the pets are all booked up.

6. Make sure your pet wears a collar with tags. One tag should be a current rabies tag and the other tag should have the dogs name, your name, address, town, state, and phone numbers. If you have a cell phone, add your cell phone number to the ID tag.

7. Most people choose to travel with their pets by car. Airline travel can be very stressful for pets, because they are treated like cargo and not like living beings. If you choose to travel by air plane, then contact the airline and ask them what their policy is for pets. Some airlines will allow small dogs to be a carry on as long as you have the proper airline carrier that is found in most pet stores.

You should also consider bringing along your pets food dishes, bed or pillow and a couple of its favorite toys. Having familiar items along for the trip can help ease the stress of traveling and make the trip more enjoyable for both you and information on grooming your pet, breeding, feeding, supplies and equipment.”

Taking your Dog on an Airplane

January 23rd, 2009

I found an interesting text about some considerations we must keep in mind if we’re planning to travel with our dog on an airplane.

It’s very important not to feed your dog for about 6 hours before the flight :), you may know why…

The article also features some good tips about dog carrier cages, and many other advices about air travelling with pets.

And don’t forget to get reliable insurance for your dog.

Enjoy.

Is this video pet friendly?

January 20th, 2009

Maybe it is. If you train your dog to be funny, if you make a funny video with your dog, I think you’re being a good master. Congratulations to these video producers, especially for this “pet friendly” dog training demonstration.

Pet Friendly Lodge. Yoga Friendly Dog.

January 16th, 2009

Our pets are cute, but not always responsive to our personal developing activities :)

While we are vacationing with them, we must choose pet friendly lodges for them to join us in our trips, and for all the family to enjoy pet friendly, relaxed stays.

I just loved this video that introduces “Monarch”. I enjoyed not only the yoga session, but also the wild bear irruption, that was truly scaring :)

I think I’m going to give this pet friendly lodge at Nevada City, California  a try, family and pets: prepare for the journey, and please pack our yoga apparels…

Pet Friendly Car. Only in Japan, for japanese dogs and families :)

January 15th, 2009

In the last few years the familiar family cars have become very fashionable, nevertheless we never paid attention to some important members of the family: the dogs.

Honda launched in Japan (where if not) a special edition of their mini-van We Go, named Travel Dog Edition.

It comes with several “advanced por dog” features that helps to accomodate dogs, and to have a pet friendly car experience, with easy to clean surfaces, as the anti-bacterial floormats. It also features a second row of seatbacks, water-repellent and odor-free-treated.

It is in general, well prepared by several functional accessories, and a very canine decoration.

Maybe a car like that could only come the country most developed of the World, but that’s not my oppinion, it’s Honda’s ;)

Pet Friendly Hotels and Lodges

January 12th, 2009

If you are like me, if your family is like mine: we love our pets, and we know they love us so much, that we don’t want to miss them, and we don’t want to miss the opportunity of traveling with them.

The travel is the easiest part, you make room for them in your vehicle, and pack their stuff and everyone is on their way to a joyful vacation.

But to choose the correct accommodation is not always as easy as the travel setup. We know that if we chose a hotel, even a pet friendly one, our beloved pets will be locked in a room, and suffer a little, and stress a lot. The other choice is to get pet friendly lodging, and this is completely different to hotels. This is why we devote this blog and our complete website to Pet Friendly Lodge or lodging, as we think this is the best way to take care of our pets while we are all vacationing.

Some things to keep in mind while panifying your great pet friendly journey:

Many pet friendly accomodations have restrictions on the number and size of pets allowed per room. Be aware of this issues before making your reservations.

Most pet friendly lodges charge additional fees and others ask for  non-refundable sanitation fees, and refundable cash deposits.

You can’t leave pets alone in any lodging  room.

I hope you enjoy your vacations with your pets, as I do with my family, my bighuman-animal family :).
